Where does only belong?

Author: Michelle Corbin - Published At: Nov 10, 2009 02:00pm EST -
Corrigo Articles

The Boston Globe publishes a blog called "The Word Blog" where I discovered (via a Twitter post to this blog) an article about the placement of the word "only" in a sentence. It was fun to see the journalistic view of this grammatical construct (or nit, in the author's words). Where do you fall on where only belongs in a sentence? Is it more than a nit in technical communication?

TE SIG Scholarship Renamed After Diane Feldman

Author: Meredith Kinder - Published At: Jul 06, 2009 09:00am EDT -
SIG News

The Technical Editing SIG renamed its scholarship as the Diane Feldman Technical Editing SIG Scholarship.

The scholarship is named in honor of a dear friend of the SIG, Diane Feldman. Diane Feldman is an Associate Fellow of STC and was the manager of the Technical Editing SIG for 7 years. Her exceptional leadership, selfless contributions, and enthusiasm for the SIG and the technical editing profession helped the SIG pull through society changes, managed to successfully re-charter and re-focus the SIG, and ultimately initiated a thriving and growing SIG. She mentored many of the SIG leaders throughout their tenures, leaving a lasting mark on those leaders and their careers.

Check out the new CIDM blog!

General

I have subscribed to the e-newsletter from the Center for Information-Development Management (CIDM) for some time now. In their latest issue, at the end of one of their articles, they (in the spirit of social computing) encouraged me to comment on the article in their new CIDM blog: http://cidmblog.com/.

CIDM

As I explored the new blog, I was quite excited to see that they have sectioned it into different topic areas, one of which is Editing Issues! Other areas include DITA, Management, Metrics, Tools, and Writing Green.

To entice you, you should read JoAnn Hackos’ post on whether stem sentences are needed to introduce task steps.

I have now subscribed (via RSS) to this blog, and I am looking forward to keeping up on the postings in this new community. Check it out!
